Providence Mob Tours
Discover the Mafia History of Providence
ABOUT THE PROVIDENCE MOB TOUR
You know the crimes, but do you know the story?
Providence Mob Tour is a walking history tour through the Federal Hill neighborhood of Providence, once the headquarters of the New England Mafia. This tour takes you through the history of organized crime in the city of Providence, the locations of some of the more notorious mob associated events that have occurred including the gangland murders and the local hangouts of the Providence Mafiosi.
We begin our tour with our "Mob Tour Induction Ceremony" during which, your guide (AKA Tour Don) will give everyone on the tour a Mob Name (nom de guerre) for the day's tour. Then we are off for a walk through historic Federal Hill where your Tour Don will take you to the sights of some of the Mafia's crimes and hangouts, including the former headquarters of the New England Mafia. The tour begins and ends at Garibaldi Square located at 99 Atwells Avenue in providence, RI.
Teeming with history, Providence is one of America’s most fascinating cities. Settled in 1636 by Roger Williams who was expelled by the Puritan leaders from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for spreading "new and dangerous ideas." He established Providence Plantations as a refuge offering what he called "liberty of conscience". In 1638, he founded the First Baptist Church in America, also known as the First Baptist Church of Providence.
Providence residents were among the first Patriots to spill blood in the lead-up to the American Revolutionary War during the Gaspée Affair of 1772, and Rhode Island was the first of the Thirteen Colonies to renounce its allegiance to the British Crown on May 4, 1776. It was also the last of the Thirteen Colonies to ratify the United States Constitution on May 29, 1790, once assurances were made that a Bill of Rights would become part of the Constitution.
In the 20th century, Providence became the headquarters of the New England Mafia, led by Mob Boss Raymond L. S. Patriarca. From his office on Providence's Atwells Avenue, Patriarca ran an empire of crime from 1954 until his death in 1984.
COVID 19 Update: Due to RI being designated high risk, we are canceling our tours until further notice. Hopefully, we will be able to begin tours again sometime in early 2021. Providing a SAFE and enjoyable tour is our priority. Thank you for visiting us and stay safe and healthy!
